Big in India

(Originally posted 7 April 2016) For some reason, we are big in India. At all the tourist spots in Delhi and Agra, we were constantly stopped and asked to appear in photographs with Indian nationals who were also visiting these sites.

At first, we tried to introduce ourselves and make small talk, but eventually there we so many occurrences like this that we just smiled politely. Many arms were put around our shoulders with several compositions tried using a multitude of smartphones. It was also essential to swap photographers so each person could have a chance to appear in one of the shots.

These kids all came up to Lauren at once asking the Aunty to shake their hand and take a photo. Then they posed all gangsta like.

It was quite a strange experience, and the requests came from all types including groups of young children to couples or whole families, with grannies and grandpas. Although Schalk is rather tall and typically gets a bit of attention when we travel, they were just as interested in average old me.

So for our first few days in India, we felt like celebrities and are expecting our photos to appear on some weird and rather random Facebook and Instagram posts.
